Meal planning tutorial

This tutorial will lead you through the process of creating a meal. By following these steps carefully you will become familiar with the major features of the calendar interface.

Note: Feel free to use your own recipes and ingredients in this tutorial. The actual recipes and ingredients you use are not important to the tutorial.

  1. Select the Diet Navigator tab.
  2. How?

  3. Click the expand icon next to the Home icon to expand it.
  4. Click the expand icon next to a profile to expand it.
  5. Tip: You can use any existing profile for this tutorial or you can create a new profile by following the instructions in the New Profile Tutorial.

  6. Select the calendar icon .
  7. Select Christmas day.
    1. Using the task toolbar date control , select Christmas Day.
    2. Change the view to the calendar day view by clicking the day view task toolbar button .
  8. Open the edit calendar dialog (click here to learn how).
    1. On the Action menu, click Edit Calendar.
  9. Enter the day properties.
    1. Click the Day tab.
    2. Type the Christmas Day in the Day Heading box.
  10. Plan breakfast.
    1. Click the Breakfast tab.
    2. Enter 4 in the Meal Servings box.
    3. Click Add to add a new meal item.
    4. Select Recipe and click Next.
    5. Select a breakfast recipe. I chose Breakfast Sausage Casserole.

      Tip: Feel free to choose your own recipes. The actual recipes used in this tutorial are not important.

      Click Finish to close the Add Meal Item window.
    6. Click Add to add a new meal item.
    7. Select Ingredient and click Next.
    8. Select a breakfast ingredient. I chose Orange Juice, raw. Click Finish to close the Add Meal Item window.
  11. Plan lunch.
    1. Click the Lunch tab.
    2. Enter 4 in the Meal Servings box.
    3. Click Add to add a new meal item.
    4. Select Recipe and click Next.
    5. Select a breakfast recipe. I chose Big Bend Texas-Style Chili. Click Finish to close the Add Meal Item window.
    6. Click Add to add a new meal item.
    7. Select Ingredient and click Next.
    8. Select a breakfast ingredient. I chose Milk, fluid, 3.25% milkfat. Click Finish to close the Add Meal Item window.
  12. Plan dinner.
    1. Click the Dinner tab.
    2. Enter 6 in the Meal Servings box.
    3. Click Add to add a new meal item.
    4. Select Heading and click Next.
    5. Type First Course in the Heading Text box and then click Finish to close the Add Meal Item window.
    6. Click Add to add a new meal item.
    7. Click Recipe and click Next.
    8. Select a recipe for your first course. I chose Honey Pumpkin Salad with Sage Croutons. Click Finish to close the Add Meal Item window.
    9. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to add another heading called Second Course.
    10. Repeat steps 6 through 8 to add your second course recipes. I chose Roasted Filet of Beef with Whole-Grain Mustard & Herb Crust, Roquefort Popovers and Creamed Potatoes with Tomatoes.
    11. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to add another heading called Dessert.
    12. Repeat steps 6 through 8 to add your dessert. I chose Plum Pudding.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Your meal plan should look something like this:

    Note: The meal and day nutrition and cost information will only be correct if the meal recipes have been linked to the ingredient database.
